Cardiology In Israel: In Brief

Cardiology In Israel: In Brief

Cardiac disease is a major cause of mortality in the world. Coronary atherosclerosis, heart attacks, arrhythmia, high blood pressure, heart failure – these disorders are considered as a consequence of the conditions in which a person lives or complications after diseases that affect patients worldwide. As acknowledged by the European Society of Cardiology, over the past decade cardiology in Israel has achieved one of the highest levels in the world. The mortality rate of hospitalized patients with heart attack in Israel country less than in 29 European countries.

Cardiac diagnostics in Israel

Arrhythmia, aortic aneurysm, stenosis of large artery atherosclerosis, valve disorders, cardiomyopathy and other disorders are successfully diagnosed in many cardiac centers in the state. There are following methods for detecting disorders of heart and its treatment:

– Diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases of adults;

– Diagnosis of heart disease of children;

– Children’s heart surgery;

– Heart surgery for adults.

Diagnostics takes place with the use of advanced medical technology and modern diagnostic equipment. Israeli cardiology uses following methods:

  • Electrophysiological studies;
  • Spiral positron emission tomography;
  • Doppler of large blood vessels;
  • Ultrasound of heart at rest and under stress;
  • Coronary angiography;
  • Angiographic cardiac catheterization.

Treatment of heart disease in Israeli hospitals

Treatment of cardiac disease in Israel is arranged to be as traumatic as possible to a patient. When possible, heart surgery is performed with endoscopic methods that cause no visible scars and reduce a recovery period. Following methods are used for treatment of cardiovascular diseases most often:

  • surgical heart valves replacement;
  • coronary artery bypass surgery;
  • coronary catheterization;
  • radiofrequency ablation;
  • installation of pacemakers;
  • endoscopic treatment of cardiac aneurysm and heart tumors;
  • heart transplantation.

Operations such as coronary artery bypass surgery, heart valve replacement, and many others has become common in Israeli surgical practice long ago, that is why they are performed in a minimally invasive mode, ie the least traumatic method of treatment.

Treatment of thoracic aorta aneurysms in Israel involves surgery with a special stent (sometimes a few) directly to the area of aneurysm. During diagnostics, a radiologist examines a patient, which determines an amount and length of a stent. The operation lasts about three hours. Postoperative rehabilitation offers one day in an intensive care unit for several days in a ward for cardiac patients.

Сoronary artery bypass grafting is preceded by Intensive Coronary Care on the basis of a treatment center, and after an operation – neurophysiological monitoring and postoperative monitoring of cardiac surgeon and cardiologist.

While operating in veins or arteries, a patient’s body is grafted with coronary arteries bypassing atherosclerotic narrowings which improves blood flow of coronary circulation.

It should be noted that treatment of heart disease in Israel means not only use the most modern methods, but also the high quality of all associated services, including pre-operative and post-operative care.
